We are building our house and think that the vinyl siding looks like it wasnt done right. There are nails in the siding at the bottom of the piece of vinyl. Its only on the first 2 rows towards the top, but not the vary top. It'svery noticeable and now some parts are starting to fall off! Does this sound right?Should you EVER see nails in the finished product of your vinyl siding on your home.?
#1 Absolutely not, you should not see nails anywhere
#2 You have been screwed by someone who has no idea how to do vinyl siding
#3 Make them stop working, dont pay them, take pictures and go after them legallyShould you EVER see nails in the finished product of your vinyl siding on your home.?
NO you shouldn't see the nails in vinyl siding. if the fasteners are put directly through the material without a slot to allow for expansion and contraction the siding will buckle in the heat and split in colder weather. at the top of the uppermost peice usualy it terminates in an undersil channel and tabs are punched to secure it in place or in special 2 peice trim channel.slots are punched in the field peice, the peice of vinyl is installed and the second part of the trim is installed to cover the nail heads.
You should never see nails, my whole house is vinyl and you cant see any of the nails, i would call the contractor and complain.
They use nails to put up siding?
I thought it was like static or something that held it in place
No, whatever sub did that work was quite sloppy, you should definetley mention it to the job super and he will make sure it is taken care of. Do it BEFORE the walk-through!
No that not right. When done properly the nails never show.
This link may help you understand. You can see the various parts involved and when installed in the proper order they hide the nails;

Being along the bottom, it sound to me they did not use a starter strip.
No none should be visible to the eye it should be completely smooth and nails should be hidden from veiw.
Typically you should not see the nails, but some types of vinyl siding have nail holes where the nails go, and the nails should be a small finishing type nail that is the same color as your siding so they don't show much. Check around your windows, make sure that the corners are overlapped and the metal is cut at 45 degree andgles and not square cut or you will have a leakage problem around your windows in years to come. This is another sign of shoddy vinyl work!
I have seen it before. But it is not the best way finish off the siding. They sell a termination strip for this reason
sounds like they didn't know what the hell they were doing. i can't see any nails in my siding.
not if it is instaled right ,except maybe on the trim
